geez, love is powerful word, isn't it?
it has the power to turn something that you only have mediocre appreciation for, into something that you can't live with out. for example, not only do i like mint chocolate chip ice-cream, i love mint chocolate chip ice-cream. see the difference? because there is, a massive one in fact. i'd go as far as to say that love is one of the most powerful words in the oxford dictionary. as big as war, as big as peace, probably as big as God. for me personally, it's bigger than God.
love comes in many different forms and the fact that it is so diverse is what makes it so powerful, like God. you can love objects like food, shoes, my blog (:! you can love acts like swimming, sex, writing. but the word is mostly used upon people, like your family, your friends and your partner, husband, wife, boyf, girlf. love is the word that can make a person sleep with another, love is the word that can send goosebumps over the whole of your body, love is the word that can make you feel safe and secure, love is the word that can reassure you that someone cares about you. love is thee word.
but what is love? can that even be defined? hmm, well, let's see.
the oxford online dictionary defines love as; noun 1. an intense feeling of deep affection. (can you have affection for ice-cream?) 2. a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone. (i do not want to have sex with ice-cream, but then again, can ice-cream be a someone? no!) 3. a great interest or pleasure in something. (oh yes, i have a greattt interest in mint chocolate chip ice-cream.) 4. a person or thing that one loves. (numero five is about tennis, so that doesn't apply. plus it's luv.)
what do i define it as? well, it depends on what context you are using it in, but mostly i believe it means affection or an attachment to something. the love that you have for your mom won't be the same love you have for your partner, just like the love you have for them won't be the same as the love you have for ice-cream.
but what i know about love is;
1. it's irrational; you might think you love someone but then suddenly, you wake up and you don't anymore. you might think you completely detest and hate someone, when you really you are completely in love with someone.
2. it's unconditional; when you love someone, they could do the most horrible, dispicable thing in the world, and on the surface you might be so fucking angry with them but underneath it all, you still love them. no matter what, that's fucking annoying.
3. it's unbearable; sometimes, you can love someone so much that you want to scream it at the top of your lungs, it makes you act like a demented lunatic, makes you have tom-cruise-jumping-on-oprah's-couch-moments.
the best way i have ever heard it described is from stardust, by yvaine; "But to see the way that mankind loves... You could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable and strangely easy to mistake for loathing."
in my eyes, that is exactly what love is.
